| The Position: | The Development Director will work as part of the “Money-In” team of Seed Commons as head of one of its two branches, fundraising, to develop and execute a strategy to meet our operational budget needs through grant and donation income. This person would work with the Director of Investments, the Money-In coordinator, and one of the Co-ED’s who together make up the rest of the Money-In team. This is a full-time position that is of a Director level after an agreed upon trial period that reports directly to the Executive Directors |
| Essential Duties: | Work with the Money-In team to develop and execute the strategy to meet our operational budget needs, mostly through grant and donation incomeCreate and nurture relationships with outside partner and support organizations, including funders, foundations, direct work partners, and ecosystem buildersAssess and track each organizational relationship, particularly their specific theories of change, issue areas, key values and vocabulary, and how this intersects with our workAs part of the team, craft specific messages to partner and support organizations for both verbal and written presentationsAttend multiple in-person ecosystem and funder gatherings in different parts of the country throughout the year to further develop relationships and educate potential partners in the work of Seed Commons |
| Skills/Experience | Multiple years of work in development and funder cultivation; this does not have to be as a development director but could be from any position within an organization so long as the experience was extensive enough to give you understanding of the work beyond the novice stageSome experience and understanding with some aspects of economic democracy and community development and how Seed Commons approaches this, especially cooperatives and non-extractive financing. Much of this will be learned on the job as part of an initial onboarding, but some existing familiarity and interest in these subjects will be necessaryFacility with public presentations, both informal relationship building at conferences and panel presentationsPassion for the work of Seed Commons and the work of selling it; this job in some ways is to sell something you believe in, and those who do it best will be those who believe most in it and enjoy sharing that with others. Passion and sincerity will matter as much or more than just experience |
